A comprehensive understanding of the globalized world – Social Science profile

The focus of profile lessons is on the critical analysis of central concepts such as identity, perception, communication, society, conflict and the market, as well as examining these concepts in terms of their significance for the individual and the general public.

The combination of Economics, Political Education, Fine Arts and English examines and critically scrutinizes people as designers of their social environment. The analysed concepts should be reflected in the active participation of pupils in shaping the school community and positively promoting the collective school experience.

A key focus of this profile is the in-depth examination of the subjects of politics, history and economics and their interconnectedness. The integration of the profile-accompanying subjects of fine arts and English is intended to strengthen the creative and communicative potential of the students in dealing with social issues.

A general interest in politics, business and society is required. The ability to work with more complex texts, graphics or caricatures is just as important as the willingness to get involved. In keeping with this requirement, the students in the GW profiles have already organised a school-wide election simulation for the Bundestag elections and initiated social projects within the school.

Science profile

At the core of our profile lessons is the critical analysis of central concepts such as identity, perception, communication, society, conflict and the market, as well as an investigation of these concepts with regard to their significance for the individual and the general public.

Modern natural sciences are taking ever more space in our evolving technical environment. Gaining an insight into how things work and dealing with the risks and consequences on the wide range of technical applications provides our pupils with a wide-ranging preparation for university or vocational training.

A key focus of this profile is the networking of the individual areas of the natural sciences. We will take a critical look at the limits and consequences that arise not only for the individual, but also for society. There is time and space for this in the subject Politics-Society-Economics.

In addition to a fundamental interest, it is of course also important to have a basic knowledge of the natural sciences.

The profile involves interdisciplinary and project-orientated work. In addition to the semester topics, practical days are organised with and at our cooperation partners in order to deepen the skills and abilities learnt.
